If I hadn't got this book for a quarter or something ridiculous like that, I wouldn't have bought it. However, it has grown on me. Basically the cover is three rows of a 20-pattern bargello sampler. The book shows its four rows of five patterns in a big photo and then names the patterns at the bottom of the page, listing the number of the page that charts that pattern. The charts are good ones, very clear, and show the stitches and threads precisely. The back has some interesting suggestions for combining bargello with classic tent-stitch needlepoint and for doing classic needlepoint-patterned canvases with bargello stitches (i.e. flower bouquets, kittens, etc). It's actually very good for a beginner although not very inspiring or impressive given the poor paper and lack of photos, let alone color ones!
